This 1996 introduction by curator Rob Gardner of the NC Botanical Garden was selected from rows of B. minor var. aberrans seedlings. Obviously, some unsafe plant sex had taken place with a wandering Baptisia alba. The result is an extremely vigorous baptisia with charcoal-green stems (when mature) and dozens of giant lupine-like flower heads of dusty purple.
