We are excited to share one of the true gems of the trillium world...the amazing Trillium vaseyi. Native to the region where the Carolinas intersect with Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama, Trillium vaseyi is found in moist, rich woodlands, especially near streams. Although Trillium vaseyi was originally thought to be a large-flowered form of Trillium erectum, it has been determined to be quite distinct with a sweeter fragrance, later flowering time, larger floral size, and a slightly nodding floral habit. Trillium vaseyi is composed of three large leaves atop an 18"+ tall stem topped, starting in mid-April, with a large liver-red nodding flower. Trillium vaseyi never clumps like many other trillium species and usually grows as a single or double stalk. Trillium vaseyi is named after American botanist George Vasey. Our plants are nursery seed-propagated...a 7- to 8-year task.
