(syn: Phegopteris decursive-pinnata) Japanese beech fern is an unusual, but very easy-to-grow fern with narrow, coarse-textured fronds that have an upright growth habit. The clump spreads slowly, eventually to a large mound...very distinctive. That's right...it has no flowers, no colorful foliage, and no attractive seed head...but just try making a woodland garden without ferns.
