Smilacina japonica is a little-known but very garden worthy false Solomon's seal that hails from 3,000'-6,000' elevations in China, Korea, Russia, and, of course, Japan. For us, Smilacina japonica forms a compact 15" tall deciduous clump that emerges in early spring and is adorned with frothy terminal inflorescences of tiny white flowers...a nice addition to the spring woodland garden.
