(aka: Silene polypetala) We are pleased to offer another of the wonderful and easy-to-grow (but US endangered) wildflowers, Silene catesbyi. These offerings were cutting-grown from a plant in Gadsden County in the Florida Panhandle. In the wild, it is usually found on north-facing moist slopes in neutral to slightly alkaline soils, where it spreads by short stolons. From late March through May, the small rock-garden sized clumps are topped with dianthus-like, salmon-pink flowers. S. catesbyi is endangered primarily due to habitat loss from development. Due to Federal regulations, these cannot be shipped out of NC.
