(syn: P. 'Uspech') I'm always on the lookout for new colors in mildew-resistant phlox, and Phlox p. 'Laura' fits the bill. Topping the 3' tall stalks in early July are lightly fragrant clusters of purple-violet flowers (RHS 80A). Each of the large flowers has a white blush toward the eye, which makes them more visible from a distance. This delightful and durable addition to the perennial border is an introduction from the Gagarin breeding program in the late '30s.
