This well-behaved Kenyan native makes a delightful airy addition to the summer garden. P. massaicum (spelled incorrectly by lazy catalog writers and nurserymen) makes a 2' tall x 2' wide clump of narrow green foliage, topped from midsummer until early fall with 3' tall plumes that top the foliage by about 1'. A mass of the small, reddish-brown plumes is quite fun as a textural contrast, both in the perennial border as well as in annual containers. Some nurseries report hardiness to Zone 5, but we question the validity of those reports until we see more proof...let us know.
