(syn: Oxalis asinina, Oxalis crispa, Oxalis flava var. fabaefolia) Whatever you call it, the pea-leaf shamrock is one of our favorites in the genus Oxalis. Oxalis fabaefolia is an amazing South African species that emerges from its summer dormancy in fall with 3" tall, usually tripartite green leaves occurring alongside the profusion of 1" wide, upfacing, lemon yellow flowers that continue until a hard freeze. Our ten-year-old clump has now spread to 18" wide...a true gem for the rock garden or as a winter container specimen. If you get these before fall they will be dormant and, because the tubers are so tiny (they never grow large like other oxalis), be careful when planting!
