(syn: M. capillaris var. filipes) We have finally sorted out the confusion in the trade that occurred when some herbarium bound taxonomists lumped M. capillaris together with M. filipes. M. filipes is always much larger and later-flowering than M. capillaris. Composed of 2' mounds of narrow dark green foliage, purple muhly is topped in October and November with 40" tall dense plumes of reddish-purple cotton candy-like flowers... a phenomenal accent in the fall garden.
