This structural marvel has long been one of our favorite conifers. The rapidly growing upright leader forms a mop-head-like effect. Next the side branches arch first upward, then strongly downward, forming an eerie pendulous effect that we normally reserve only for haunted house landscapes. This striking plant is indeed the perfect architectural specimen for that special place in the garden. The "rigida" part of the name describes the stiff needles, not the branches!
