From native plant guru, Craig Moretz of NC, comes a rare cultivated form of our native dwarf iris. I. verna var. verna is a running iris, while the more commonly seen I. verna var. smalliana is a clump former. This selection was made in 1985 from a savannah in Pender County, NC. I. verna var. verna will grow in both very dry and wet conditions. I. 'Baby Blue Eyes' is covered with small fragrant medium blue-lavender flowers in early April in NC. In 3 years, expect a 3-4' wide carpet of color.
