Illicium parviflorum 'Florence' is a speckled-leaf variegated selection of the Florida native, small-flowered anise. Illicium parviflorum 'Florence' was selected and named by Woodlanders' plantsman Bob McCartney after Florence Webb, of Superior Trees, where the plant originated. I'll be surprised if Illicium 'Florence' reaches more than 3' tall due to the large amount of white in the anise-scented, speckled, evergreen foliage. Small-flowered anise is adorned with very small chartreuse flowers in late June (NC). Average to slightly moist soils are best and anything from sun to part sun is best. With the reduced chlorophyll in the leaves, it doesn't grow very well in dense shade.
