(syn: H. 95-36) This unusual hosta was derived from a 1994 cross of Hosta rupifraga x Hosta plantaginea. The 3' wide clump is composed of upright leaves that arch outwards like a giant wave. The leaves also have a unique wavy edge we haven't seen in any other hostas. In August and September, Hosta 'Surfer Dude' is adorned with 30" spikes of splendid, large, purple-and-white striped buds, opening to large, slightly fragrant flowers. We have chosen not to tissue culture this hosta, so all plants are divisions from the original clump.
