We have enjoyed this unique selection of Hosta plantaginea since the late Dr. Herb Benedict shared it with us in 1993, and we finally have enough to share with you. Our 2' tall x 4' wide clump is composed of glossy, light green leaves that are much longer and narrower than typical H. plantaginea. The typical large, white, fragrant H. plantaginea-like flowers top the clump in August. In the genus Hosta, Schmid indicates that this form arrived in Japan from China in the 1800s. Why has it taken so long to become readily available?
