There are many plants parading around under the moniker Hippeastrum x johnsonii. Most of the plants actually seem to be this old hybrid between Hippeastrum aulicum and Hippeastrum x johnsonii. Hippeastrum 'Ackermanii' is an extremely hardy and vigorous cultivar. The wide, glossy green leaves are topped in late April and May with 20" spikes ending in star-shaped, red flowers with a white star central pattern. Hippeastrum 'Ackermanii' multiplies rapidly, so I hope you have plenty of friends with whom to share.
