Fall brings the end of one growing season and the beginning of another. Though cutting backing herbaceous perennials occurs year-round, on a case-by-case basis, fall is the peak of such cutbacks, especially after frost kills many warm-season herbaceous perennials to the ground. But what to cut back? What to leave for winter interest? Why is it important to leave some plants uncut to support wildlife? How to cut back specific plants and when? This class will provide much useful information but also encourage gardeners to see the beauty of the winter forms of many herbaceous perennials. The class will be conducted as a stroll through the JLBG gardens.
