This rare evergreen Solomon's seal, native to Southern China, initially came into the US as D. fusco-picta. After years of study we, as well as others, have determined that it is actually D. arisanensis, since the rhizome on true D. fusco-picta is quite different. With a habit similar to our native Solomon's seal, this also has a slowly creeping rhizome. The difference is that the foliage is very thick and glossy (twice as wide as D. pernyi), and yes...evergreen to 5 degrees F. In late spring, the plants produce tiny, white, bell-like flowers.
