I fell in love with this amazing groundcover fern when I first saw it at the US National Arboretum (USNA 56547) in front of the Asian Valley exhibit, and we are thrilled to finally be able to share. Dennstaedtia hirsuta, which is home from Siberia south to Taiwan, is much slower to spread than our native hay-scented fern and consequently makes a fantastic deciduous, deer-resistant groundcover (4' wide in 5 years) in the garden. Our offering comes from a Barry Yinger collection on Korea's botanically rich, but very remote Sohuksan Island!
