This new and still un-named species of South African ice plant is a perfect groundcover. Originally discovered by Sean Hogan above 9,000' in a wet alpine meadow on Sani Pass in the Drakensberg Mountains, it was later re-collected by Panayoti Kelaidis of the Denver Botanic Garden in 1994. The small green succulent leaves that turn red in the winter are a perfect foil for the bright yellow daisies that top the plant in spring. Each clump will make a 2-3' wide mat...perfect groundcover for a sunny site...dry of slightly moist.
