Cypripedium 'Michael', which is a 1998 Werner Frosch introduction, named for cypripedium grower Michael Weinert has been one of our best garden performers in the heat and humidity. Cypripedium 'Michael' is a small-growing hybrid created from a cross of two Chinese native species, Cypripedium henryi and Cypripedium macranthos. The 10-12" tall stalks, adorned with pleated green leaves, are topped in late spring with a stunning purple and white pouch, backed by three dramatically striped purple and white sepals. Moist, slightly alkaline soils work the best. Our offerings are all flowering-sized plants.
