Crinum amoenum, a cousin of our native Crinum americanum hails from India, where it is also a river-dwelling species. For us, Crinum amoenum adapts beautifully to normal garden conditions, forming a clump instead of a running specimen as with Crinum americanum. In early July, the clumps are topped with multiple scapes of huge, strap-petaled, fragrant white flowers, highlighted by wine-purple stamens. Crinum amoenum has proven to be a great garden plant as well as a superb summer container specimen.
