(Syn: Symphyotrichum ericoides, A. ericoides ssp. pansum 'Snowflurry') We first saw this cutie at the JC Raulston Arboretum, where it looked more like a heather than an aster. Unlike the taller asters, this tiny, 6" tall specimen consists of minute congested leaves and branches. In addition, this tight mound is smothered with small white flowers in late summer and into early fall. I cannot think of a better candidate for fall interest in the rock garden than this gem.
