Aspidistra 'Garden Gallery' is a Barry Yinger introduction from Thailand, that arrived as an unknown species. We were a bit surprised when it flowered and turned out to be a selection of the Chinese native, Aspidistra sichuanensis. Aspidistra sichuanensis 'Garden Gallery' is quite similar to the more popular Aspidistra 'Ginga', but in our trials, Aspidistra 'Garden Gallery' is more vigorous, grows a bit larger, and the numerous leaf spots tend more toward creamy yellow than creamy white in Aspidistra 'Ginga'. Aspidistra 'Garden Gallery' flowers for us in mid-November, when the sparsely produced, burgundy flowers can be seen emerging from the ground around the base of the plant. The dwarf 1' tall clump is composed of 1' long x 2" wide, upright green leaves, well-speckled with bright yellow dots.
