This large leaf form of our rare native evergreen A. lewisii is one that we selected in Apex, NC in 1989. The dark green heart shaped 2" wide deer-resistant leaves are each highlighted by a dramatic silver pattern. Unlike other asarums, this one spreads like the best of groundcovers...more than 2' per year once established. In the wild, a leaf will appear every 4" along the stem, but in cultivation, the leaf spacing becomes much closer. The unusual hairy purple brown flowers appear under the foliage in mid summer.
