From Ishigaki Island in the Japanese Ryuku Island chain comes a new asarum into the US. A. dissitum is renowned for its thick velvety evergreen foliage, which can be either solid green or occasionally speckled with silver. A clump formed from the large rounded 3-4" leaves makes a spectacular specimen for the woodland rock garden. The small rounded brown bottle shaped flowers surround the base in spring.
