Anemone coronaria 'Bicolor' is a lovely selection of the Mediterranean spring ephemeral. I was completely charmed when I saw these gems in the Greek countryside during my 2010 visit to Crete. The compact fern-like foliage emerges in fall and remains green all winter. Starting in early March (NC), the clumps are topped with upfacing white cup-like flowers, each highlighted by a central maroon-red band. Anemone coronaria goes dormant by late spring.
