Amsonia ciliata 'Spring Sky' is an excellent selection of the drought-tolerant native Amsonia ciliata (Missouri south to Florida) made by plantsman Rick Darke at Pennsylvannia's Henry Foundation (the preserved garden of the late plant explorer Mary Henry). Amsonia 'Spring Sky' makes a 2' tall x 2' wide clump that resembles a compact Amsonia hubrichtii. The sturdy stems are clothed in narrow green leaves, and topped in spring with sky-blue flowers that are slightly larger than the norm for Amsonia ciliata. In the fall, the foliage turns a nice golden yellow before leaf fall.
