It was originally published in 1998 by Dr. Li Heng as Amorphophallus nanus, a Yunnan endemic, but was quickly realized by collectors to simply be a dwarf, natural variation of Amorphophallus konjac, but with a more dissected leaf and compact 2' tall stature. The flower stalk, which opens in early May, is typical for Amorphophallus konjac, except for a lighter spathe coloration.
