We are pleased to share an amazing form of our US native (Canada south to Alabama) spring ephemeral trout lily, Erythronium americanum, which was discovered near Pigeon Mountain, Georgia by our friend, UK plantsman Graham Birkin, in 2012. In our garden, this rare solid silver leaf selection of the typically mottled species has shown amazing vigor, forming a 2' wide patch, that increases steadily via short rhizomes. For us, the summer dormant clumps are topped in early April with large, bright yellow flowers. Erythroniums flower from tiny tubers that aren't much larger than pencil leads, so don't freak out at the size. Each pot contains 2 tubers. In the garden, moist compost is best. Our quantities of this new release are extremely limited.
