We are pleased to finally share our nursery propagated plants of Sarracenia rubra ssp. gulfensis 'AC Free' for the first time in 2020. No relation to former NBA player, World be Free, or anything that Bernie Sanders wants to be free, this fascinating pitcher plant was formerly known as Sarracenia rubra ssp. gulfensis forma luteoviridis, before officially changing its name. This anthocyanin (red color) free form of the Gulf Coast endemic red pitcher plant was born without any pigment other than chlorophyll, which surely makes it a member of a minority class. This was originally discovered in the wild by the late Jim Bockowski along North Florida's Yellow Rover. Clumps of Sarracenia 'AC Free' form an 18" wide, dense clump of 16" tall, narrow green pitchers. Good luck trying to get Kermit's song, "It's not easy being green" out of your head.
