The North American native Salvia madrensis hails from 4000' - 5000' elevation in Mexico's Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains. Salvia 'Red Neck Girl' is a 2002 Plant Delights/JLBG selection of the giant Salvia madrensis adds dramatically red-purple color what are arguably some of the best winged stems in the perennial world. These 7' long, colorful, rigid stems support the large, fuzzy, silvery green leaves. Beginning in late September (a month earlier than most other forms of Salvia madrensis), the stems end in large panicles of butter-yellow flowers...a truly stunning addition to a sunny site in the fall garden.
