We are excited to offer the rarely seen Mainland China form of Rohdea chinensis var. chinensis. To distinguish the mainland form from the Taiwan form, we have used the seed cultivar name Rohdea 'Green Panda'. For us, Rohdea 'Green Panda' makes a much larger clump than typical Rohdea japonica, quickly reaching 2'+ tall x 3' wide. The narrow, glossy, evergreen leaves compose a slowly offsetting clump, adorned in late April (NC) with short spikes of pine cone-like flower heads that open white, age to orange, and smell like a terpene-based household cleaner. Rohdea chinensis is quite easy to grow in a typical woodland garden...average soil moisture is fine.
