Hymenocallis pygmaea 'Carolina Creeper' is an amazing and very rare NC native that occurs in only a few small populations along the North Carolina/South Carolina coastal border. The seed from which our original clone was grown was collected in Columbus Co., NC. Hymenocallis pygmaea is the most dwarf spider lily, composed of 8" tall rosettes of very narrow, green leaves. In moist garden soils, it multiplies very rapidly. In late May (NC), the foliage is topped with 1' tall spikes of large white, nocturnally fragrant spider-like flowers...a truly splendid specimen for a moist-to-wet site in part-to-full sun. Our plants have survived unscathed through single digits F since 2008, so it's much more winter hardy than its coastal origins would suggest.
