Yucca rupicola is a clump-forming, deer-resistant yucca is native only to a small area in the Edwards Plateau region of Texas, where we found it growing atop very dry rocky banks with liatris and vernonia. The Latin root "rupicola" means "living among rocks", which is spot on. Yucca rupicola is prized for the wide green leaves which twist...like we did last summer, forming a wild-looking clump that reminds me of those delightfully silly, over-moussed punk rock hairdos of the '80s. In April/May, the 1.5' tall x 2.5' wide Yucca rupicola clumps are topped with 8' flower spikes of large, 2"+ long ivory bells, which are pollinated by nocturnal moths, so pull up a chair and enjoy the authentic nature channel.
