Xanthocyparis vietnamensis

(aka: Callitropsis, Hesperocyparis, Cupressus vietnamensis) Xanthocyparis vietnamensis is a distant cousin of the Western US Callitropsis nootkatensis with an identity crisis. Vietnam cedar is a monotypic (there's only one) genus, discovered in 1999, growing on the karst limestone mountains in the Hà Giang Province in northern Vietnam. Since there are less than 1000 plants in the wild, Xanthocyparis vietnamensis is one of the worlds' rarest and most endangered conifers, so we hope you'll be a part of the ex-situ conservation effort to preserve this. Eventually to 30'+, the foliage resembles a thujopis at maturity, although the juvenile foliage is quite feathery. DNA taxonomists have bounced it around like a tennis ball from Xanthocyparis to Callitropsis, to Hesperocyparis, to Cupressus, and now back to Xanthocyparis. We have limited quantities of cutting grown plants, but let's not have an all out war...hope we've learned that history lesson.
