Yucca louisianensis 'Desoto Blue' is a 2003 Plant Delights discovery in Desoto Parish, Louisiana (near the Texas border), where it resides in sandy blackland prairies. We had seen several populations of the little-known Southeast native Yucca louisianensis as we botanized the gulf coast states, when we discovered a single population with narrow glaucous blue foliage, adorned with curly filifers (threads), compared to the typical green form. Our rhizome cutting survived and has now formed a lovely patch of 20" tall x 40" wide, offsetting rosettes. The rosettes are topped with 7'+ tall, hairy flower spikes of large white bell-shaped flowers in late spring. We are offering these as a consistently colored seed strain.
