Lilium davidii 'Lite Lunch' began its life here at Plant Delights in 2003, when it showed up in a staff member's lunchbox...picked up at a local Chinese grocery store. Through some astute deal making, the bulb wound up in our garden by day's end...saved from an untimely culinary demise. Our new bulb turned out to be the most incredibly beautiful form of Lilium davidii var. unicolor that we've ever grown, so we christened it Lilium 'Lite Lunch'. The dwarf 3' tall specimen is adorned with very narrow, linear foliage and topped, starting in mid-June (NC), with 15-18 downward-facing, recurve-petaled, bright orange, unspotted flowers. Lilium davidii 'Lite Lunch' is truly superb, both in foliage and flower...and possibly as a lunch snack when you have enough.
