Amorpha nana is a Midwest/Great Plains US native plant that forms an attractive dwarf, rock garden-sized shrublet to 3' tall. The woody stems are clothed with an abundance of compound, green, fern-like leaves, missing the foliar hair of its cousin Amorpha canescens. In June/July, the stems are topped with short terminal spikes of purple, honey-fragranced flowers, each attractively highlighted by the contrasting reddish-orange pollen...a pollinator's delight. Amorpha nana is very drought tolerant and consequently appreciative of well-drained soils.
