Polystichum setiferum 'Bevis' (no association with the sidekick Butt-Head) is one of the largest clones of the European soft shield fern we've seen, forming 30" tall x 4' wide symmetrical clumps of very soft, delicately-textured, evergreen fronds...quite stunning! Slightly moist, rich, organic soil grows the best plants. Polystichum 'Bevis' was originally discovered, growing naturally in a ditch in Sommerset, England in the 1800s. From its humble beginnings, it went on to win a prestigous RHS Award of Merit in 1984.
