Coreopsis tripteris ‘Gold Standard’ is a 2016 Mt. Cuba Center introduction that has been quite impressive in our trials. We've shied away from most other cultivars of Coreopsis tripteris because of their terrible flopping garden habits when in flower, but that's been eliminated with Coreopsis 'Gold Standard'. This selection of the North American native (Canada south to Texas) perennial forms a large clump of 6' tall stalks, clothed with deeply-divided green leaves, and topped, starting in late summer with stalks of bright 2" wide brown-centered yellow daisies. Coreopsis 'Gold Standard' was selected by Mt. Cuba from seed originally collected in Alabama. Plants grow best in a wide range of soils from gravel to rich compost, and from alkaline to slightly acidic. Coreopsis tripteris prefers soils that are moist to average, but they will be fine through short term droughts. We are pleased to make this outstanding native selection more widely available.
