Agave striata 'Live Wires' is a clonally-propagated cultivar of the porcupine century plant, native to the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range in northern Mexico, selected by Yucca Do Nursery because of its blue-grey leaves on a species whose foliage can range from light green to grey. Agave striata 'Live Wires' matures as an 18" tall x 3' wide porcupine-like ball of narrow but very stiff, pointed, blue-grey leaves...pet at your own peril! When Agave striata becomes mature enough to flower, the clump will be topped with an 8' tall spike of tiny yellow flowers along with tiny green hummingbirds...quite the sight. Agave striata is a species that has fared very well in our cold winter climate, although good drainage and protection from winter moisture is always important.
