Hymenocallis pygmaea 'Carolina Creeper' is a 2005 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of an amazing and very rare NC native spider lily, that only occurs in a few small populations along the North Carolina/South Carolina coastal border. The seed from which our original clone was grown was collected in Columbus Co., NC. Hymenocallis pygmaea is the most dwarf spider lily, composed of 8" tall rosettes of very narrow, green leaves. In moist garden soils, it multiplies very rapidly. In late May (NC), the foliage is topped with 1' tall spikes of large white, nocturnally fragrant spider-like flowers...a truly splendid specimen for a moist-to-wet site in part-to-full sun. Our plants have survived unscathed through single digits F since 2008, so it's much more winter hardy than its coastal origins would suggest.
