This delightful selection of the groundcover Ardisia japonica was introduced to the US by plantsman Ted Stephens, who named it after finding it in a consignment-based garden center near Japan's Mizunami City. It is the smallest form of Ardisia japonica that we've ever seen, forming a 6" tall x 2' wide patch in 12 years. The upright woody stems are clothed with narrow evergreen leaves, which are a nice foil for the tiny pink flowers followed by bright red fruit that adorn the clump in the winter months. We think this is a superbly well-behaved form of Ardisia japonica, some larger clones of which can get a bit aggressive in our climate.
