Baptisia 'Royal Candles' is a 2015 Plant Delights Nursery introduction that's unlike any baptisia introduction we've seen. Baptisia 'Royal Candles' is a hybrid of Baptisia australis and the little-used Baptisia tinctoria. The result is an insanely vigorous 30" tall x 6' wide specimen that emerges with dark purple stems clothed in narrow glaucous green leaves and topped, starting in late April (NC) with an amazing number of 16" tall spikes of royal purple flowers. Baptisia 'Royal Candles' is a wide showstopper in the garden, so allow plenty of room.
