We received this Japanese wild ginger in 2009 as Asarum variegatum, but have since come to discover it is actually a form of Asarum takaoi. We were so taken with this splendid selection, we've christened it Asarum takaoi 'Pitter Patter'. For us Asarum 'Pitter Patter' has formed a low-growing evergreen mat to only 1" tall, but to 2' wide in 7 years. The silver dollar-sized leaves are deep green with large central silver patterns in each leaf. In late winter, lift the skirt of leaves for an exciting purple peep show of tiny flowers.
