Asarum sieboldii is an important medicinal herb in China, called xiexin, but is almost unknown in US gardens. In the wild, Asarum sieboldii can be found on forested mountain slopes in Korea and the adjacent Liaoning Province of China. The upright, 6" fuzzy green leaves are held in pairs, forming an attractive evergreen clump. At the base of the leaf pairs are small dark purple flowers that appear in mid-spring. Asarum sieboldii is very easy to grow in the woodland garden. In Chinese medicine, Asarum sieboldii is used to cure a variety of ills including toothaches, chronic bronchitis, and the common cold...not approved by the FDA.
