Tiarella

Tiarella (Foam Flower)

Species in the genus Tiarella are primarily North American woodland natives and are among the finest spring-flowering shade plants.

More Information About Tiarella

Tiarella produces small clumps of green maple-leaf foliage, often highlighted with black leaf patterns, and topped with clusters of usually white flowers in spring (a butterfly food source) that resemble foam coming from a narrow stem, hence the common name, foam flower. Tiarella leaves usually take on a reddish cast in the cool nights of fall and winter. Foam flowers are related to heuchera and the two have been crossed to create heucherella, another great garden plant.

Foam flowers are shade garden plants that prefer a typical amended garden soil with even moisture. They can tolerate deep shade better than most plants. Tiarella are very cold hardy and can be grown in most states in the continental US. In the last 10 years, breeders have released several new and fantastic foam flowers for sale. We have been trialing them to offer you only the best performers. The name tiarella literally means "little tiara", quite fitting as tiarella plants are a crown in the garden.
