More Information About Ceratostigma
The genus Ceratostigma is fairly small, containing just 8 species of perennial wildflowers that are related to plumbago and limonium. Of the 8 species, Ceratostigma plumbaginoides is a common ornamental plant in colder climates, but doesn't tolerate our hot, humid summers. Other species, like Ceratostigma willmottiana, Ceratostigma griffithii and Ceratostigma minus are not as winter hardy, but perform much better in warmer climates.
Ceratostigma is an easy-to-grow perennial that prefers well-drained, consistently moist soils and full sun. They are also perfect rock garden plants. Ceratostigma will spread to 3' or more. Try growing ceratostigma as a replacement for ivy or other over-used groundcovers... it is particularly nice cascading over a wall or down a hill and as a bonus it attracts butterflies.
