More Information About Anemarrhena
The genus anemarrhena is monotypic, whose single species, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, is widely used in Chinese traditional herbal medicine to treat hot flashes, diabetes and other ailments but we grow anemarrhena for its ornamental value. Anemarrhena has grass-like leaves and in late summer produces tall flower stalks containing many small, nocturnally-fragrant flowers. Anemarrhena flower color differs from individual to individual and can be pink, pale purple or white.
In its native habitat of northern China and Korea, anemarrhena lives in moist woodland conditions, scrub areas, grassy slopes, steppes, and hillsides. Anemarrhena asphodeloides is fairly flexible as to soil type but prefers a part sun location and regular watering.
