The flowers, which are also highly prized by all kinds of bees, are followed by unusual seed pods that burst open to spread their silk laden seed. Good drainage and plenty of sun are the keys to success.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003ch3\u003eMaintenance:\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eAsclepias tuberosa is a maintenance free perennial, requiring virtually no care in the garden. When the old foliage dies back in late summer, little remains but a few dried stalks that can be easily pulled off.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003ch3\u003eGrowing Conditions:\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eFull sun for at least six hours, and a very well-draining soil is the key to success. Butterfly weed has no tolerance for soils that hold much moisture, or drain poorly. We have not found a time of year that doesn't work well.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eGrowing Conditions:\u003cbr\u003eHesperaloe parviflora enjoys full, hot, baking sun for 6+ hours. While they will survive in less light, you will probably never see flowers. Other than bright light, well-drained soils are also very important, since false red yucca detests waterlogged soils. It will tolerate a soil pH from slightly acidic to quite alkaline.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eNomenclature:\u003cbr\u003eWe were surprised to find that much of what is sold as Hesperaloe parviflora is actually not correctly named.
